Description
Geoscience Australia's Australian National Hydrocarbon Geochemistry Data Collection comprises Oracle database tables from the Organic Geochemistry schema and derivative information in the Petroleum Systems Summary database. The data includes organic geochemistry, organic petrology, and stable isotope results from source rocks, crude oils, and natural gases across Australian sedimentary basins, compiled from industry submissions, research projects, and published reports.
Use Cases
Evaluate petroleum prospectivity based on compiled organic geochemistry data from Australian basins.
Model petroleum systems using raw analytical results from source rocks, crude oils, and natural gases.
De-risk hydrogen exploration programs based on geochemical data relevant to sediment-hosted energy resources.
Support national mapping projects and resource assessments using the public national-scale database.
Inform evidence-based policy decisions on sediment-hosted energy resources using non-confidential data.
Strengths
Data is described as the only public comprehensive database of its kind at the national scale for Australia.
Collection integrates data from multiple sources including industry reports, government studies, and scientific publications.
Focus includes both conventional and unconventional hydrocarbon exploration, hydrogen exploration, and carbon capture programs.
Limitations
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
