Description
Geoscience Australia's Boreholes database includes header, directional survey, and lithostratigraphic data. The service aggregates records from Geoscience Australia, its predecessor organisations, Commonwealth offshore jurisdictions, and a selection of onshore government and private boreholes. It conforms to the GeoSciML v4.1 data transfer standard where possible.
Use Cases
Map subsurface geology based on lithostratigraphic observations
Analyze borehole drilling patterns across Australian jurisdictions
Model geological structures using directional survey data
Integrate borehole data with other geospatial datasets via OGC-compliant service
Strengths
Data conforms to the GeoSciML v4.1 data transfer standard
Includes data from multiple government and private entities across onshore and offshore Australia
Provides links to a data dictionary and status vocabulary documentation
Limitations
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
