Description
Geoscience Australia's Boreholes database provides header, directional survey, and lithostratigraphic data for boreholes. The service includes records from Geoscience Australia and its predecessors, offshore Commonwealth jurisdictions, and selected onshore boreholes from government and private entities. The data conforms to the GeoSciML v4.1 standard and was last updated on April 16, 2026.
Use Cases
Map subsurface geology based on lithostratigraphic observations.
Analyze borehole drilling patterns based on header and survey data.
Study geological formations across Australian onshore and offshore regions.
Validate geological models using standardized GeoSciML v4.1 data.
Strengths
Data conforms to the GeoSciML v4.1 data transfer standard.
Includes boreholes from Commonwealth offshore marine jurisdictions.
Provides a data dictionary and vocabulary documentation via linked PDFs.
Limitations
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
