Description
Borehole header, directional survey, and lithostratigraphic data from Geoscience Australia's database. The service includes records from GA and its predecessors, all Commonwealth offshore boreholes, and a selection of onshore government and private boreholes. It conforms to the GeoSciML v4.1 data transfer standard where possible.
Use Cases
Model subsurface geology based on borehole lithostratigraphic data.
Analyze borehole trajectories for drilling planning based on directional survey data.
Map geological formations across Australian onshore and offshore regions using the aggregated borehole records.
Strengths
Conforms to the GeoSciML v4.1 data transfer standard, promoting interoperability.
Includes data from a primary national geological authority (Geoscience Australia) and its predecessor organizations.
Covers both onshore and Australian Commonwealth offshore marine jurisdictions.
Limitations
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Data may reflect geographic or source bias inherent to the contributing regulatory authorities.
Provenance
Source
Geoscience Australia's Boreholes database, sourced from various state, territory, and Commonwealth regulatory authorities.
Collection Method
Aggregated from regulatory submissions for research purposes.
