Description
Australian onshore and offshore borehole records from Geoscience Australia's database. The service includes header, directional survey, and lithostratigraphic data sourced from government and private entities, conforming to the GeoSciML v4.1 standard where possible. Geoscience Australia is not a regulatory authority; data is sourced from state, territory, and Commonwealth authorities for research purposes.
Use Cases
Map subsurface geological formations based on lithostratigraphic observations.
Analyze borehole drilling patterns and locations across Australian jurisdictions.
Model subsurface directional paths based on borehole survey data.
Integrate borehole header information with other geological datasets.
Strengths
Data conforms to the GeoSciML v4.1 data transfer standard.
Includes records from Geoscience Australia and its predecessor organisations (BMR, AGSO).
Covers both Commonwealth offshore marine jurisdictions and a selection of onshore boreholes.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Data may reflect geographic/source bias inherent to data_gov_au.
Provenance
Source
Geoscience Australia's Boreholes database, sourced from various regulatory authorities.
Collection Method
Aggregated from boreholes drilled by government and private entities.
Freshness
