A 2010 study trialed an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) to map benthic habitats and biodiversity in coastal and offshore waters of SE Tasmania. The data integrates AUV image capture with ship-based high-resolution multibeam bathymetry, surveying habitats from kelp-dominated rocky reefs to deep mid-shelf reef and sediments. The study was presented at the OCEANS'10 IEEE Sydney Conference and Exhibition.
