Gippsland Basin seafloor imagery collected by an AUV-Phoenix vehicle from June 19-25, 2015. The dataset includes stereo image pairs, track files, and mosaics from 12 sites, acquired to assess potential impacts of seismic operations on scallops. Data was collected by Australian Marine Ecology Pty Ltd and the University of Sydney.
Use Cases
- Analyze scallop population density and distribution based on stereo seafloor imagery.
- Assess changes in seafloor habitat before and after seismic surveys based on the time-series imagery.
- Validate AUV navigation and image stitching algorithms based on the provided track files and mosaics.
- Study benthic community structure based on high-resolution still images of the seabed.
Strengths
- Images were collected with calibrated stereo cameras at a resolution of 1388 x 1038 pixels.
- Data includes post-processed geotiffs, track files, and mosaics for each station.
- A Word file provides documentation on folder structure, file types, and post-processing.
Limitations
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
- Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
- Strong currents truncated transects at some stations, and strobe failures reduced image quality at others.
