Description
167 artificial nest experiments were conducted across four sites in Hainan Province, China, between April and June 2025 to study predation risk for the Hainan Partridge. The dataset, created by Yuhan Zhang and last updated in May 2026, includes results from covered and uncovered nest treatments monitored over 21-day periods. It likely contains tabular data on nest locations, treatments, and predation events, supplemented by video recordings from camera traps.
Use Cases
Compare predation rates between covered and uncovered artificial nest structures.
Analyze spatial patterns of nest predation across different forest sites within and outside Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park.
Model predation risk based on environmental variables suggested by the nest placement protocol.
Validate camera trap data against manual inspection records of egg damage or disappearance.
Strengths
Experimental design includes a controlled comparison between 167 covered and uncovered nests.
Spatial coverage spans four distinct study sites with precise geographic coordinates provided.
Data collection followed a standardized 21-day protocol with inspections on days 10 and 21.
Limitations
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
The dataset uses domestic pigeon eggs as proxies, which may not perfectly replicate partridge egg predation dynamics.
