Description
China's Lake Dataset provides water depth and storage estimates for natural lakes larger than 1 km² across China for the year 2020. It was developed by Chunqiao Song using in situ bathymetric measurements, empirical scaling models, and spatial analysis. The dataset includes lake location, surface area, mean depth, water volume, uncertainty estimates, and classification information.
Use Cases
Assessing regional water resource availability based on lake water volume estimates.
Analyzing lake characteristics and classification based on lake zone and salinity type data.
Modeling watershed-level hydrological processes using the Level-1 watershed boundaries.
Estimating uncertainty in lake storage calculations based on the provided uncertainty metrics.
Strengths
Includes uncertainty estimates for depth and volume calculations.
Covers natural lakes larger than 1 km² across China.
Combines field-based measurements with model estimations for volume derivation.
Provides ancillary geospatial data for lake zones and watershed boundaries.
Limitations
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Data is from a single year (2020), limiting temporal analysis.
