The series comprises 516 standard maps, each covering approximately 1.5 degrees longitude by 1 degree latitude, and about 50 special maps for non-standard areas. The map features natural and constructed features including road and rail infrastructure, vegetation, hydrography, and 50-meter contours.
Use Cases
Terrain analysis and elevation modeling based on 50-meter contour intervals.
Infrastructure planning and routing based on road and rail network data.
Environmental and land cover studies based on vegetation and hydrography features.
Map sheet edge matching and spatial data integration based on information from surrounding sheets.
Strengths
Covers the entire continent of Australia at the largest published topographic scale (1:250,000).
Series comprises 516 standard maps, providing systematic national coverage.
Contains multiple feature types including infrastructure, vegetation, hydrography, and contours.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Data is provided in PDF format, which may require conversion for computational analysis.
