Description
The Bureau of Mineral Resources and South Australian Department of Mines and Energy conducted a joint regional framework study of the Great Australian Bight in 1986-1987. The project involved multichannel seismic surveys, sampling, heatflow work, and reinterpretation of existing seismic data. This folio is the principal product of the joint study, covering basins including the Duntroon, Denman, Great Australian Bight, Polda Trough, and Bremer.
Use Cases
Mapping subsurface geological structures based on multichannel seismic survey data
Evaluating petroleum resource potential based on regional framework interpretations
Analyzing heatflow characteristics for basin thermal history modeling
Comparing geological interpretations across different basins and organizations
Strengths
Data is a product of a joint study by two government organizations (BMR and SADME)
Coverage includes multiple basins (Duntroon, Denman, Great Australian Bight, Polda Trough, Bremer)
Incorporates multiple data collection methods (seismic surveys, sampling, heatflow work)
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download
