A bathymetry compilation was created by Geoscience Australia in agreement with the Australian Antarctic Division. The dataset was used in support of Australia's contribution to the development of the Representative System of Marine Protected Areas (RSMPA) at a CCAMLR Workshop held in Brest, France in August 2011.
Use Cases
- Modeling seafloor topography for marine protected area design based on bathymetry data.
- Supporting international policy discussions on Antarctic marine conservation based on the RSMPA framework.
- Analyzing underwater terrain in Eastern Antarctica for environmental impact assessments.
Strengths
- Compiled by Geoscience Australia, a national geological survey organization.
- Used for a specific policy workshop (CCAMLR Workshop on Marine Protected Areas) in August 2011.
Limitations
- Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
- Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
