Description
A 5-meter resolution bathymetric raster of five inland water bodies in the Magdalen Islands, produced by the Quebec Regional Science Directorate of Fisheries and Oceans Canada. Depths are expressed in meters and reduced to chart datum, integrating data from LiDAR, satellite-derived bathymetry, acoustic surveys, and spot depth sampling. The dataset is intended for information, analysis, and research purposes but is not a hydrographic product and is not intended for navigation.
Use Cases
Modeling coastal erosion and sediment transport based on detailed seafloor depth data.
Assessing habitat suitability for marine species based on bathymetric features.
Planning marine conservation strategies for the lagoon marine refuge based on underwater topography.
Calibrating and validating satellite-derived bathymetry algorithms using integrated survey data.
Strengths
Integrates data from multiple sources including LiDAR, satellite-derived bathymetry, and acoustic surveys.
Provides a high-resolution (5-meter) raster product for detailed spatial analysis.
Explicitly documents its non-navigational purpose and potential for uncertainties, setting clear expectations.
Limitations
Data may contain uncertainties, acquisition artifacts, or processing errors and does not meet International Hydrographic Organization standards.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count and dataset size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Provenance
