Description
London and Thames Valley regional hazard susceptibility map identifying potential shrink-swell hazard in three-dimensional space at intervals down to 20m. The data classifies Volume Change Potential (VCP) of shrink-swell clays on an A-E (low to high) range. It is produced by the British Geological Survey (BGS), derived from BGS Geology 50k data, the BGS London Lithoframe 3D model, and the GeoSure v7 Shrink-Swell layer.
Use Cases
Assessing foundation risk for construction projects based on the 3D shrink-swell hazard classification.
Modeling ground movement susceptibility for infrastructure planning based on the Volume Change Potential (VCP) data.
Integrating regional geological hazard data into environmental impact assessments based on the 3D model.
Validating and calibrating geotechnical models using the A-E hazard susceptibility classification.
Strengths
Provides 3D hazard mapping at intervals down to 20 meters.
Classifies hazard susceptibility on a standardized A-E (low to high) scale.
Derived from authoritative BGS geological data sources, including a 3D model.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count and file size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Data may reflect geographic bias inherent to the specific London and Thames Valley region.
