Description
October 3-7, 2022 surface water measurements from 23 locations in Loch Etive, Scotland, including nine open loch stations, four fish-farm sites, and six river inflows. The dataset encompasses in-field parameters like water temperature and pH, plus laboratory analyses for major nutrients, trace elements, stable isotopes, and phytoplankton community composition via flow cytometry.
Use Cases
Analyze spatial patterns in nitrate, nitrite, ammonium, and soluble reactive phosphorus (SRP) across marine, freshwater, and fish-farm influenced sites.
Model relationships between chromophoric dissolved organic matter (CDOM) indices like fluorescence index (FI) and humification index (HIX) with dissolved organic carbon (DOC).
Compare phytoplankton community composition from flow cytometry (diatoms, cryptophytes, cyanobacteria) against nutrient levels and chlorophyll-a concentration.
Investigate trace element and rare earth element (REE) concentrations, such as lithium and barium, relative to water temperature and specific conductivity.
Strengths
Samples from 23 distinct locations enabling comparison across marine, freshwater, and anthropogenically influenced environments.
Includes a wide range of biogeochemical parameters: major nutrients, trace elements, stable isotopes (δ18O), and dissolved organic matter indices.
Combines water chemistry with particulate analyses for total suspended solids (TSS), chlorophyll-a, and phytoplankton community data.
Limitations
Temporal coverage is limited to a single 5-day sampling period in October 2022, not capturing seasonal variation.
Sample size is constrained to surface water only, lacking depth profiles or time-series data from the same sites.
Dataset scope is geographically specific to Loch Etive, Scotland, limiting generalizability to other regions.
