Description
Twenty-five research missions flown in 1994 collected vertical profiles through the planetary boundary layer over the Northern Study Area, Southern Study Area, and a transect. Measurements include wind speed and direction, air pressure and temperature, potential temperature, dewpoint, mixing ratio of H2O, CO2 concentration, and ozone concentration, recorded at 1-second intervals. This dataset contains all in situ soundings from the NCAR Electra aircraft, excluding 'porpoise' maneuvers.
Use Cases
[Analyzing vertical structure of atmospheric variables] based on [wind speed, air pressure, temperature, and dewpoint measurements]
[Studying carbon dioxide and ozone distribution] based on [CO2 and ozone concentration columns]
[Modeling boundary layer height and evolution] based on [multiple soundings per mission through the boundary layer top]
[Investigating boreal ecosystem gas exchange] based on [data collected over NSA, SSA, and transect during BOREAS Intensive Field Campaigns]
Strengths
Data collection includes 25 distinct research missions flown during three Intensive Field Campaigns
Each mission contains between 4 and 10 vertical soundings through the boundary layer top
Measurements are recorded at a high temporal resolution of 1-second intervals
Limitations
Dataset size, row count, and specific column names are not provided in any source
