Description
29,089 X-ray sources detected from 4,303 ROSAT HRI pointed observations with exposure times longer than 100 seconds. The catalog was generated using a multi-scale wavelet detection algorithm and provides positions, count rates, fluxes, and extensions for each source, along with cross-correlations with other wavelength catalogs. NASA HEASARC ingested this catalog in March 2003.
Use Cases
Analyze the log(N)-log(S) cosmological source distribution based on the reported limiting flux of ~1.2x10^-14 erg/s/cm^2.
Cross-match X-ray sources with optical, infrared, and radio counterparts based on the reported correlations with FIRST, IRAS, 2MASS, and GSC2 catalogs.
Study source morphology and disentangle crowded fields based on the wavelet algorithm's capability to detect both point-like and extended sources.
Compare source detection completeness against the older ROSHRICAT catalog based on the reported ~90% recovery rate for its short version.
Strengths
29,089 sources detected with a high confidence threshold (≥4.2 sigma).
Derived from a large set of 4,303 individual observations.
Provides sky coverage metrics (732 sq. deg. down to ~1x10^-12 erg/s/cm^2 and 10 sq. deg. down to ~1x10^-14 erg/s/cm^2).
Includes cross-correlation results with multiple established catalogs at other wavelengths.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
