Description
569 individuals from 94 species of fishes, sharks, rays, and sea snakes were observed using 19 baited remote underwater video stations (BRUVS) at inshore shoals near Cairns and Cardwell in December 2006. The dataset includes 238 images and records habitat classification, species identity with CAAB codes, arrival times, behavior, maturity, and relative abundance metrics like MaxN. Data was collected and analyzed by AIMS staff using a custom Microsoft Access interface.
Use Cases
Modeling species abundance and distribution based on MaxN and arrival time data.
Classifying benthic habitat types based on recorded topography, sediments, and benthos.
Analyzing fish feeding behavior based on the 8 recorded behavior categories.
Studying population structure based on recorded maturity (adult or juvenile).
Strengths
Contains observations for 569 individuals from 94 distinct species.
Includes 238 images captured from the 19 deployed BRUVS stations.
Records multiple behavioral and ecological variables, including 8 behavior categories and habitat classification.
