Description
1465 individual fish, sharks, rays, and sea snakes from 85 species were observed in the Timor Sea using 47 baited underwater video stations. The dataset includes 504 images and records habitat classification, species identity with CAAB codes, arrival times, behavior, maturity, and relative abundance metrics like MaxN. It was collected by the Australian Ocean Data Network between September 12 and October 6, 2012.
Use Cases
Modeling species abundance and distribution based on MaxN and habitat classification data.
Analyzing fish feeding behavior and arrival times relative to bait deployment.
Classifying benthic habitats from imagery based on topography, sediments, and benthos descriptions.
Studying population demographics based on recorded maturity (adult/juvenile) data.
Strengths
Includes 1465 individual observations across 85 species, providing a substantial sample.
Captures 504 images from 47 distinct baited remote underwater video stations (BRUVS).
Records multiple behavioral and ecological variables, including 8 behavior categories and maturity states.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Freshness should be verified; last metadata update was 2026-04-28 14:54:49.014601.
