Manually digitized polygons define exposed, hard reef substrate on the Carnarvon Shelf. The dataset was created from multibeam echosounder data collected during the GA0308 marine survey in August and September 2008. It is published with the permission of the CEO, Geoscience Australia and aggregated by the Australian Ocean Data Network.
Use Cases
- Map seafloor reef habitats based on exposed, hard substrate definitions.
- Analyze reef morphology based on bathymetry and backscatter data derivatives.
- Model marine ecosystems using precisely digitized reef polygons at a 1:10,000 scale.
Strengths
- Features were mapped at a detailed scale of 1:10,000.
- Based on multibeam echosounder data from a dedicated 2008 marine survey (GA0308).
- Includes analysis of bathymetric derivatives like slope and hillshading.
Limitations
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
- Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
- Data may reflect geographic/temporal bias inherent to the single 2008 survey.
