Description
Elizabeth Verhoeven of ETH Zurich collected this time series dataset of soil moisture, Eh, nitrogen species (NO3, NH4), dissolved organic carbon (DOC), and nitrous oxide (N2O) measurements from agricultural fields. Data includes N2O surface emissions and isotope signatures (15N-N2O, 18O-N2O, 15N-NO3, 15N-NH4), though some isotope data is incomplete. Measurements were taken at multiple soil depths under different water management treatments over two years.
Use Cases
Modeling nitrous oxide emissions based on soil moisture and nitrogen species data.
Analyzing the impact of water management treatments (DS-AWD, WS-AWD, WS-FLD) on soil chemistry.
Studying nitrogen isotope fractionation in agricultural systems, based on the 15N and 18O measurements.
Investigating the relationship between soil depth and concentrations of dissolved gases and nutrients.
Strengths
Includes measurements from five soil depths in 2015 and three depths in 2016, providing vertical profile data.
Covers multiple water management treatments (DS-AWD, WS-AWD, WS-FLD) for comparative analysis.
Contains a metadata file with units and sampling notes, which likely aids in data interpretation.
Limitations
Isotope signatures were undeterminable for some sample dates and/or depths, creating gaps in that data.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment for large-scale modeling.
