Description
GLIDE numbers are global unique identifiers for disasters, designed to make disaster information interoperable across multiple sources. The Asian Disaster Reduction Center proposed this system to address the challenge of scattered and confusing disaster data. This dataset contains disaster events for the Central African Republic, used actively by organizations like UN-OCHA, UNDRR, and IFRC.
Use Cases
Track disaster frequency and impact over time based on the standardized GLIDE event registry.
Cross-reference disaster information across different humanitarian data sources based on the common unique identifier.
Analyze spatial patterns of disasters in the Central African Republic based on the geospatial file format.
Integrate disaster event data into early warning or response planning systems based on the interoperable identifier system.
Strengths
Data uses a globally recognized unique identifier (GLIDE number) for interoperability.
Adopted by major international organizations including UN-OCHA, UNDRR, and IFRC.
Available in multiple formats including GEOJSON and CSV for flexibility.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Data may reflect geographic bias inherent to the sources aggregated by the GLIDE Initiative.
Provenance
