Description
1879 to 2003 temperature and precipitation records from 298 meteorological stations across the Northern Tien Shan and Pamir Mountain Ranges in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. Most stations provide nearly a century of observations, offering a long-term perspective on mountain climate in Central Asia. The data are stored in tab-delimited ASCII text, Microsoft Excel, and PDF formats.
Use Cases
Analyzing long-term temperature trends in Central Asian mountain ranges based on station records.
Studying precipitation patterns and variability across the Tien Shan and Pamir regions.
Calibrating or validating regional climate models using historical ground station observations.
Assessing climate change impacts on mountain ecosystems and water resources in Central Asia.
Strengths
Contains data from 298 stations, providing spatial coverage across five countries.
Offers a long temporal record, with most stations covering nearly 100 years and the earliest data from 1879.
Limitations
Specific column names and data structure are not described, limiting immediate usability.
There is a conflict in the 'last updated' metadata between sources (2003 vs. 2026), casting doubt on data maintenance.
The variable period of record per station may complicate analyses requiring consistent time series.
