Cereal production index measures the relative volume of edible cereal output for countries and world regions. The index uses 1999-2001 as a baseline (100) and weights production quantities by 2004-2006 average international commodity prices. Data is compiled by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and disseminated via the World Bank's Africa Development Indicators.
The index is a dimensionless relative measure (1999-2001=100), not absolute production quantities. It specifically excludes processed and semi-processed feed items from calculations.
