Description
2022 data from the Civil Hydrography Programme includes acoustic backscatter mosaics, seabed samples, and natural feature shapefiles for Mounts Bay. The data was collected by the Channel Coastal Observatory using vessels White Ribbon and FPV Morven, equipped with Norbit iWBMS and Kongsberg 2040C multibeam echosounders. Records were verified by the UK Hydrographic Office.
Use Cases
Create seafloor habitat maps based on acoustic backscatter mosaics.
Analyze seabed sediment composition based on H575 seabed samples.
Identify and classify underwater natural features based on provided shapefiles.
Calibrate acoustic models using verified backscatter and sample data.
Strengths
Data is verified by the authoritative UK Hydrographic Office.
Includes multiple complementary data types: mosaics, samples, and shapefiles.
Collection methodology is specified, involving two named vessels and specific multibeam echosounder models.
Limitations
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
