Description
Bisulfite-Seq and RNAseq data from an ISS experiment investigating epigenetic changes in Arabidopsis thaliana mutants (elp2-5 and met1-7) and wild-type plants exposed to spaceflight. The dataset, created by NASA, compares genome-wide methylation profiles and gene expression between spaceflight-grown samples and ground controls, with analyses performed on leaf and root tissues. The data was last updated on March 13, 2026.
Use Cases
Identify spaceflight-induced differential methylation patterns based on Bisulfite-Seq data from mutant and wild-type plants.
Correlate epigenetic modifications with gene expression changes based on paired MethylSeq and RNAseq analyses.
Compare organ-specific epigenetic responses between leaf and root tissues as described in the experiment.
Investigate the role of 5mCyt and specific methylation-regulating genes (met1-7, elp2-5) in adaptation to novel environments.
Strengths
Data originates from a controlled spaceflight experiment conducted on the International Space Station.
Includes paired epigenetic (MethylSeq) and transcriptomic (RNAseq) data for a multi-omics analysis approach.
Compares three genetic variants (two mutants and a wild-type) across two environments (spaceflight and ground).
Provides organ-specific analysis for leaf and root tissues.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Data is provided in a BIN file format, which may require specialized tools for access and analysis.
