Description
Canada's national collection holds over 88,000 roundworm specimens, with this checklist representing a subset of accessions from its provinces and territories. The compilation is based on a cross-referenced subset of the Canadian National Collection of Insects, Arachnids, and Nematodes, excluding regulated species.
Use Cases
Cross-reference scientific names against valid and accepted names indicated in the Nemys world database
Analyze the distribution of nematode species across Canada's provinces and territories from the accession records
Study the taxonomic composition of the subset, which includes approximately 5000 primary and secondary types of nearly 400 species
Strengths
Derived from a primary depository containing over 88,000 roundworm specimens
Includes approximately 5000 primary and secondary types representing nearly 400 species
Scientific names were validated by cross-referencing against the Nemys world database
Limitations
The checklist is explicitly noted as not exhaustive, with regulated nematodes purposefully removed
Based on a subset of the larger national collection, not a complete inventory
The underlying type catalogue reference is from 1985, which may not reflect recent taxonomic revisions
