Circulating microRNAs in Dogs with Cushing's Syndrome for Biomarker Discovery

Description
20 circulating microRNAs were analyzed in blood samples from 6 healthy dogs, 19 dogs with pituitary-dependent hypercortisolism, and 26 dogs with cortisol-secreting adrenocortical tumors. The study, conducted by Karin Sanders of Utrecht University, identified specific miRNAs differentially expressed between healthy and diseased dogs, including miR-122-5p which showed no overlap in expression levels between healthy dogs and those with PDH. Results indicate the potential of these miRNAs as noninvasive biomarkers to aid clinical decision-making for canine Cushing's syndrome.
