Description
572 admissions of acutely ill patients aged 60+ to a university hospital in São Paulo, Brazil, from 2009 to 2013. The dataset, from a retrospective cohort study by Suelen Pereira Arcanjo, contains comprehensive geriatric assessment data used to identify predictors for referral to exclusive palliative care, which was indicated in 152 (27%) cases.
Use Cases
Predicting palliative care referral likelihood based on clinical conditions like advanced dementia and cancer.
Analyzing associations between laboratory values, such as albumin levels, and patient outcomes.
Modeling short-term mortality risk for hospitalized elderly patients based on complications like delirium and infections.
Identifying demographic and clinical factors, including male sex, associated with end-of-life care decisions.
Strengths
Data covers 572 patient admissions with a clearly defined primary outcome.
Multivariate analysis identified specific predictors with odds ratios, such as advanced dementia (OR=12.6) and cancer (OR=7.36).
Includes detailed mortality statistics, with in-hospital mortality at 50% and 12-month cumulative mortality at 66% for the palliative care group.
Limitations
Row count and column-level documentation are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Data is from a single hospital in Brazil, which may reflect geographic bias.
