Description
From February 14 to November 3, 1991, this dataset contains high-resolution Conductivity, Temperature, and Depth (CTD) profiles collected from the R/V Point Sur in the NE Pacific. The data, submitted by the Naval Postgraduate School, includes nearly continuous vertical profiles of temperature, salinity, density, and potentially dissolved oxygen or transmissivity at depth intervals as fine as 1 meter. Each station record includes cruise and instrument information, position, date, time, and may include concurrent meteorological and sea surface conditions.
Use Cases
Analyzing vertical stratification and water mass properties based on temperature and salinity profiles.
Studying temporal changes in oceanographic conditions over the 1991 sampling period.
Calibrating or validating regional ocean circulation models using in-situ CTD data.
Investigating relationships between surface meteorological conditions and subsurface ocean structure.
Strengths
Provides high-resolution vertical profiles with depth intervals as fine as 1 meter.
Covers a defined temporal range from February 14 to November 3, 1991.
Includes associated metadata for each station, such as position, date, time, and instrument information.
Limitations
Specific column names, row counts, and file sizes are not provided in the available metadata.
The dataset's license and precise data format (beyond NODC F022) are unspecified.
Conflicting 'last updated' dates exist between platforms (1991 vs. 2026), creating uncertainty about metadata maintenance.
