Description
From August 5, 1986, to September 16, 1987, this dataset contains Conductivity, Temperature, and Depth (CTD) and other hydrographic measurements from five research cruises in the Gulf of Maine. Data was collected from the ships ENDEAVOR, GYRE, and OCEANUS by the University of New Hampshire and submitted by Dr. Wendell S. Brown. The processed data is available in the NODC F022-CTD-Hi-Res file format.
Use Cases
Analyzing water column stratification based on conductivity and temperature profiles.
Studying seasonal or interannual variability in the Gulf of Maine's hydrography during the 1986-1987 period.
Validating regional oceanographic models with historical in-situ CTD measurements.
Investigating spatial patterns of oceanographic conditions from cruise-based survey data.
Strengths
Data covers a specific, defined time range from August 1986 to September 1987.
Collected from five dedicated research cruises using multiple vessels, suggesting systematic sampling.
Processed and formatted to a recognized standard (NODC F022-CTD-Hi-Res).
Limitations
Column names and specific variables beyond CTD are not listed, limiting precise understanding of data structure.
Conflicting 'last updated' metadata between platforms (1987 vs. 2026) creates uncertainty about data currency.
No information on data resolution, sampling depth, or quality control procedures is provided.
Provenance
Source
University of New Hampshire, Durham, NH; submitted by Dr. Wendell S. Brown.
