Description
From June 2009 to November 2013, Fisheries and Oceans Canada collected 760 temperature, salinity, and dissolved oxygen profiles from 276 stations in the Coast of Bays, Newfoundland. Data were processed using manufacturer guidelines, custom tools, and visual inspection. The dataset provides a baseline for oceanographic knowledge to support sustainable aquaculture regulation.
Use Cases
Modeling seawater vertical structure based on temperature and salinity profiles.
Analyzing spatial variability of water quality parameters for aquaculture site selection.
Studying seasonal oceanographic changes based on multi-year survey data.
Creating baseline visualizations of hydrographic conditions using Ocean Data View software.
Strengths
760 quality-controlled profiles from 11 surveys over a 4.5-year period.
Data processed using manufacturer guidelines, custom tools, and visual inspection.
Provided in formats compatible with common tools (e.g., Excel, Ocean Data View).
Linked to published Science Advisory Reports and proceedings for context.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count for the primary data files is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
