Description
Sixteen different annual probabilities of exceedance for extreme sea levels are provided for sites in UK estuaries, tidal rivers, and harbours. The dataset includes confidence levels for the 5% and 95% lower and upper bounds, as well as Mean High Water Spring and Highest Astronomical Tide levels for some locations. This 2018 update informs coastal flood modelling, scheme design, and strategic planning under present-day conditions, excluding future climate change impacts.
Use Cases
Coastal flood modelling based on extreme sea level probabilities and confidence bounds.
Scheme design for flood defenses using site-specific estuary level information.
Strategic planning for coastal zones based on present-day extreme sea level data.
Flood risk assessments for estuaries and harbours using the provided design levels.
Strengths
Provides data for 16 distinct annual probabilities of exceedance, offering a detailed risk spectrum.
Includes confidence bounds (5% and 95%) for the extreme sea level estimates.
Developed in partnership by major UK environmental agencies (EA, SEPA, NRW, DfINI).
Limitations
Key metadata such as row count, column names, and license are unknown across all sources.
Data is based on 2018 conditions and does not account for future climate change or sea level rise.
