Description
DAFF and SELTMP compiled this 2013 dataset on Queensland's commercial harvest, line, net, pot, and trawl fisheries. It contains 20 geospatial layers for active licenses, effort days, harvest weight, and gross value of product (GVP) aggregated on a 30-minute grid. The data originates from mandatory daily logbooks completed by commercial fishers and is managed by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.
Use Cases
Mapping fishing effort intensity based on reported effort days aggregated on a 30-minute grid.
Analyzing the spatial distribution of harvest weight and economic value (GVP) for different fishery types.
Assessing the footprint of licensed commercial fishing operations for marine spatial planning.
Correlating fishing activity with environmental or conservation zones using the geospatial grid data.
Strengths
Contains 20 distinct data layers covering licenses, effort, harvest, and economic value.
Spatial data is provided on a detailed 30-minute grid for areas with more than 5 licensed operators.
Data is derived from mandatory daily logbooks, which suggests a systematic collection method.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Metadata is noted as not authoritative and was developed for the eAtlas project.
