Over 22,200 acres of Congaree Swamp National Monument were mapped for vegetation type using aerial photography and field sampling in April 1996. The National Park Service and U.S. Geological Survey created this dataset as a baseline study of vegetation conditions during the 1990s. It documents one of the last significant old-growth bottomland hardwood forests, containing over 90 tree species.
Data is from a prototype phase of a national program; standards and protocols may have evolved. The specific license and exact file formats are unknown.
