361 individual chickens from three Chinese domestic breeds were genotyped using GBS to compare genetic diversity between in situ and ex situ conservation strategies. Research led by Mengmeng Zhang from China Agricultural University found ex situ populations maintained in controlled environments retained less genetic diversity. The study used selective signature analyses like FST, Pi, and XPEHH to identify genomic conservation units for breed-specific traits.
