Description
A map of broad floristic types for the Lower North East NSW CRA region, created using aerial photo interpretation at a scale of 1:25,000. The dataset was compiled by the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water and last updated in May 2026. It integrates existing vegetation mapping from external agencies, such as councils, requiring specific licensing.
Use Cases
Assessing regional biodiversity based on mapped floristic groups and eucalypt subformations.
Planning conservation reserve networks using the integrated vegetation mapping dataset.
Conducting landscape change analysis based on rectified, attributed digital overlays.
Validating other ecological models with the topographically correct digital dataset.
Strengths
Mapping was performed at a detailed scale of 1:25,000.
The dataset integrates pre-existing mapping from multiple sources, including external agencies.
Data is provided in multiple geospatial formats (PDF, ESRI REST, ZIP, WMS).
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count and dataset size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Data may reflect geographic bias inherent to the specific NSW CRA region.
Provenance
Source
NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water
Collection Method
Conventional aerial photo interpretation (API) techniques on clear plastic overlays, later scanned and converted into a digital dataset.

Geography
Lower North East NSW CRA (Comprehensive Regional Assessment) region, later merged into an Upper North East NSW dataset.
Licensing was required for some integrated data from external agencies (e.g., councils).
