A 1976 technical report from the NSW Government examines the crash performance of emergency locking retractor seat belts through field investigations and laboratory simulations. The study finds that retractors increase body excursions for lap/sash belt wearers but performance is generally satisfactory. It reviews Australian Design Rule requirements and concludes a revised dynamic test based on dummy excursion limits is needed.
