Description
Crowdy Head, New South Wales, Australia, was surveyed for seabed mapping between April 20 and 30, 2021. The dataset contains 32-bit floating point GeoTIFF files of bathymetry and backscatter data at a 5-meter resolution, processed from multibeam sonar data. The survey was conducted by the New South Wales Department of Planning and Environment as part of the SeabedNSW program.
Use Cases
Modeling underwater terrain and slope stability based on high-resolution bathymetry.
Classifying seabed substrate types based on backscatter intensity data.
Establishing baseline environmental conditions for marine park management as mentioned in the description.
Supporting coastal engineering and infrastructure planning with detailed seafloor maps.
Strengths
Data has a high spatial resolution of 5 meters.
Survey methodology and standard operating procedures are documented in a publicly available PDF.
Data collection period is precisely defined as April 20-30, 2021.
Limitations
Row count and dataset size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
The description explicitly states the data is not to be used for navigational purposes.
