Current measurements were collected by five ARGOS-tracked drifters deployed from April 14 to 16, 2003 in the Middle Atlantic Bight continental shelf offshore Delaware Bay. Data were gathered by Dr. Richard Garvine and Dr. Charles Tilburg to support the DECADE project's investigation of across-margin transport of materials.
Use Cases
- Analyze current velocity patterns from ARGOS location data to model shelf circulation.
- Track drifter trajectories to study cross-margin transport of biological and chemical materials.
- Compare current measurements from Horizon Drifters and Brightwater Drifters for instrument validation.
- Use GPS-ARGOS system location data for higher precision geospatial analysis of drifter paths.
Strengths
- Data from five distinct drifters provides multiple simultaneous measurement points.
- Collection occurred over a focused three-day period in April 2003.
Limitations
- Sample size is limited to only five drifters and a short deployment window.
- Data is from a single event in 2003, limiting temporal analysis.
