Description
Current meter components data were collected from fixed platforms in the Northeast Pacific Ocean from July 8, 1982, to October 1, 1985. The dataset contains time-series measurements of east-west (u) and north-south (v) current vector components, representing Eulerian flow measurements at specified sensor depths. Water temperature, pressure, and conductivity or salinity may also be reported at 10-15 minute intervals.
Use Cases
Analyzing temporal variability of ocean currents based on the 10-15 minute time-series measurements.
Validating ocean circulation models using the Eulerian current vector components (u, v).
Studying water column properties by correlating current data with reported temperature, pressure, and salinity.
Investigating fixed-point mooring performance and data collection methods in deep-sea environments.
Strengths
Data spans a multi-year period from July 1982 to October 1985, providing a continuous time series.
Processed to a standardized format (NODC F015), ensuring consistency and interoperability.
Contains high-temporal-resolution measurements, typically reported at 10-15 minute intervals.
Limitations
Key metadata such as row count, file size, and specific column names are unknown across all sources.
The last update date conflicts between sources (2026 vs. 1985), casting doubt on metadata maintenance.
