Description
Geomechanical strength data from the Grey Shale Member of the Whitby Mudstone Formation, collected and tested by the British Geological Survey. Each test includes a three-stage process of heating, preloading, and triaxial compression under controlled pressure and displacement rates. Data are stored in individual Excel files containing time, force, stress, displacement, and strain measurements.
Use Cases
Modeling rock deformation under cyclic thermal loading based on the described heating and pressure stages.
Predicting triaxial compressive strength of mudstone based on stress and strain data.
Calibrating geomechanical simulations using the constant displacement rate and confining pressure parameters.
Analyzing time-dependent material response from the recorded time, force, and strain data.
Strengths
Testing was completed to ISRM specifications, indicating standardized procedures.
Data includes a detailed three-stage test process (heating, preloading, triaxial compression).
Measurements include time, force, stress, displacement, and strain for each test.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Data may reflect geographic bias inherent to samples from the Whitby Mudstone Formation.
