Darwin Harbour sediment grain size data and summary statistics for seabed samples collected between 2011 and 2017. A total of 499 samples are reported from 489 stations, with all grain size data published in the Marine Sediments Database (MARS). This project was funded by the INPEX-led Ichthys LNG Project and co-invested by Geoscience Australia and the Australian Institute of Marine Science.
Use Cases
- Create thematic habitat maps based on sediment grain size distribution.
- Analyze seabed composition for marine resource management decisions.
- Establish environmental baselines for the Darwin Harbour region.
- Compare sediment characteristics across 489 sampling stations.
Strengths
- 499 sediment samples provide a substantial baseline.
- Data collected over a 6-year period (2011-2017) from multiple surveys.
- Published with the permission of the CEO, Geoscience Australia, indicating formal approval.
Limitations
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
- Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
