Description
Caitlin Evans collected behavioral and physical measurement data from male great bowerbirds (Chlamydera nuchalis) following experimental removal of a bower wall. The dataset includes raw behavior logs, field observations, bower measurements, decoration counts, and transition network analysis, totaling 229.2 MB in TXT, R, and CSV formats. The data was last updated on April 14, 2026, and is shared under a CC-BY-4.0 license.
Use Cases
Analyze behavioral switching patterns based on the transition network data mentioned in the description.
Model resource allocation decisions following signal disruption based on the multiple behavioral and structural signals recorded.
Investigate correlations between baseline bower traits (wall thickness, symmetry) and behavioral response magnitude.
Study the temporal dynamics of bower wall reconstruction and decoration arrangement from the field behavior logs.
Strengths
Dataset includes multiple linked data types: raw behavior logs, field observations, physical measurements, and analysis code.
Data is associated with a specific, well-described experimental manipulation (bower wall removal).
Includes R code for analysis and a README file explaining data frame columns.
Released under a permissive CC-BY-4.0 license for reuse.
Limitations
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download from the README.
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
