Description
Madrid, Spain, is the location for this dataset of experimental and observational field data on ecological interactions between invasive Monk Parakeets and native urban birds. The data, collected between 2021 and 2023, includes raw counts, abundance metrics, and behavioral matrices, accompanied by R scripts for analysis. It was created by Jon Blanco González for a manuscript accepted in Ecological Applications.
Use Cases
Modeling interference competition based on quantified agonistic and intimidation events at foraging sites.
Analyzing spatial avoidance patterns based on native bird abundance along a parakeet density gradient.
Studying nesting facilitation based on records of native species using parakeet nest structures.
Visualizing and comparing interaction matrices for key native species like House Sparrows and Eurasian Magpies.
Strengths
Includes reproducible R scripts for generalized linear mixed modeling (GLMM) and visualization.
Data covers three distinct ecological axes: interference competition, spatial avoidance, and nesting facilitation.
Collected across multiple urban parks in Madrid between 2021 and 2023, providing temporal and spatial context.
Files are organized into self-contained modules with raw data, standardized metrics, and detailed metadata.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment for large-scale modeling.
Data may reflect geographic bias inherent to its collection in a single metropolitan area.
