Description
2005-2014 survey data from 15,001 Australian adults in Queensland compares healthy lifestyle factors between singles and couples. The dataset supports analysis of trends in smoking, weight, physical activity, diet, and alcohol consumption. It was created by Stephanie Schoeppe from annual computer-assisted telephone interviews.
Use Cases
Analyze trends in non-smoking rates (OR = 1.82 for couples) segmented by relationship status over the 10-year period.
Model associations between relationship status and meeting recommendations for limited fast food (OR = 1.12) or alcohol consumption (OR = 1.27).
Investigate the declining trend in rates of normal weight (OR = 0.97 per year) for both singles and couples.
Examine changes in rates of meeting physical activity recommendations (OR = 0.97 per year for couples) and fruit/vegetable consumption (OR = 0.95 per year for couples).
Strengths
Contains 15,001 individual survey records with a balanced gender split (50% male).
Provides 10 years of annual trend data (2005-2014) for longitudinal analysis.
Includes specific odds ratios (OR) for associations between relationship status and multiple health behaviors.
Limitations
Data is limited to Queensland, Australia, limiting geographic generalizability.
Relies on self-reported survey data for health behaviors, which may be subject to bias.
Cross-sectional design of annual surveys limits causal inference from the trend analysis.
