A field experiment in early-successional temperate grassland investigated how soil nutrient supply influences niche-based versus stochastic community assembly. The study manipulated nutrient availability, sowed individual seed mixtures with 25 species per plot, and used null models of beta diversity to analyze compositional variation. Results demonstrate that nutrient availability dictates the dominance of deterministic environmental filtering versus stochastic immigration and extinction processes.
