Field tethering and laboratory predation experiments investigate size-selective predation by shore crabs (Pachygrapsus marmoratus) on two ecotypes of the marine snail Littorina saxatilis. The data support analysis of survival rates for different snail size-classes and ecotypes across upper and lower shore locations. Results quantify selection pressures favoring large size, thick shells, and late maturity in the crab ecotype.
