GPIb-α Plasma Levels in ARDS Patients from the Thilo Trial

125 patients with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) were enrolled in the multicenter Thilo trial. Alice Bernard measured plasma levels of platelet glycoprotein receptor GPIb-α over the first 5 days after study inclusion. Cox analysis showed low GPIb-α levels were associated with higher mortality, with a mortality rate of 53% in patients with the lowest levels (0–130 ng/mL) versus 10% in patients with higher levels (341–850 ng/mL).
