Plasmodium Falciparum Haplotype Diversity Prior to Malaria Vaccine Implementation

Innocent M. Ali analyzed 100 Plasmodium falciparum-positive dried blood spots collected in Mapoussere, Cameroon during 2022–2023. The study genotyped four genes, identifying 22 haplotypes for the circumsporozoite protein with a vaccine-matched haplotype present in 20% of genotyped infections. It provides a baseline of genetic diversity in a region targeted for the RTS,S/AS01 malaria vaccine.
